UWF Baseball Begins 2008 Conference Play at Montevallo

first_img March 13, 2008PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida Baseball team will begin the conference games this weekend at Montevallo. The 2007 GSC Champions, will begin on the road in quest of another GSC title. The three game series includes a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm, and concludes with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.The three game series for the 11-14 Argos and the 17-9 Falcons, is the opening conference series for both teams. Last year, Montevallo won two out of three from the Argos, but UWF prevailed in the conference tournament to win the conference title. Both teams were selected to advance to the NCAA tournament last season, and Montevallo ended the season ranked 28th in the nation, while the Argos were the 23rd ranked team.Beginning this season, both teams were ranked in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper top 40, with Montevallo ranked preseason 16th, and the Argos ranked preseason 29th. The two teams were the top ranked teams in the GSC East Division. The Argos Kyle Andrews, with 35 hits, and Steven Bingert, with four triples, are among the conference offensive leaders so far this season.The games this weekend will be broadcast on Stretch Internet.
