West Florida Baseball completes four game sweep of Quincy University

first_img Share Feb. 24, 2008 Box Score  PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team completed a sweep of the Quincy University Hawks on Sunday, with two lopsided wins In the nightcap, a Craig Westcott Grand Slam highlighted a six run third inning, which helped the Argos get out to a 13-0 lead, after the fifth inning. Quincy would score five runs in the final two innings. Nick Presley started the game, and picked up the win, giving up only five hits in six innings pitched.Craig Westcott’s grand slam was the first of three homeruns for West Florida. Gregg Burkel drilled a two run in the fifth inning, while Eric Kroll led off the fourth inning with a drive over the left centerfield fence for a solo home run. Kyle Andrews had three hits and two runs scored in the second game.Head Coach Mike Jeffcoat was pleased with the victories, “we are starting to see progress in the younger hitters, as they are making good adjustments hitting fastballs, and using good patience at the plate. It’s good to be above .500, heading into the tough part of the schedule leading into conference play. We swung the bats real well this series, and had good pitching all week.”Ten different Argos had hits in the victory, as Steven Bingert, Scott Beckwith, and Eric Kroll each had two hits. Bingert, Burkel, and Jon Reed each drove in two runs. Beckwith and Brandon Brewer each scored two runs, and the Argos scored all their runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings.The four game sweep improved the Argonauts to 9-6 on the season. West Florida is playing great baseball, on the strength of a current six game winning streak. West Florida will host a three game series on Tuesday and Wednesday at Pelican Park against Northwest Missouri State. Game times are 4:00 on Tuesday for a single game, followed by a doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 3:30 pm.
