8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Tags:#start#StartUp 101 Related Posts Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… At today’s roundtable we saw three very nice businesses, each with pilot customers, and each working on real problems. At the end of the session, each left with specific action items. First up today was Antonio Lucena de Faria with ActionFlow from Portugal. Antonio has a portfolio of Web-based business process management applications for small businesses with 10-100 employees. Antonio has 100 trial customers at the moment, and is looking to figure out exactly what his company positioning is going to be. I asked him to speak with his 100 trial customers and understand at a granular level exactly what problem each of them is trying to solve by using his product. I also asked him to come back and discuss the findings with me, and I will help him position the company.I also advised Antonio to defer his investor road show and even customer acquisition programs until this basic positioning exercise is in place. IDES TechnologiesThen Cristina Soviany presented IDES Technologies from Belgium. IDES is an analytics enhancement for fraud prevention systems addressing the credit card fraud market. It works well with other fraud detection systems like FICA. Cristina currently has a couple of large customers in pilot mode, and is starting to show metrics on how much improvement IDES can deliver over existing analytics engines.I advised her to get one or two reference customers out of her current pilots, and then start charging the follow-on pilot customers. There is no reason why she should do the pilots for free once she has a bit of credibility established. And these pilots will pay for her early bootstrapping phase. Then, she can start doing partnerships with fraud management system vendors and use their channels to sell, perhaps. All this, could, potentially, be done without external financing. And along the way, if necessary and appropriate, she can raise financing with a vastly more validated business. At this point, financing discussions are premature and are likely not to yield success. Medi-CodeRick Holdren and Rohit Saxena then discussed Medi-Code, an integration solution for small hospitals (up to 150 beds) and small physician practice groups ($5 million to $20 million annual revenue) to connect with Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) as a requirement of the healthcare regulatory changes coming in 2012. Rick is looking at Medi-Code as an investment opportunity from his angel group, and Rohit is the entrepreneur.I advised them to do a thorough segmentation and competitive positioning for the healthcare practice management system market. The competitive analysis they showed me was missing the most relevant players like eClinicalworks and Office Ally, both companies that I have profiled in the Entrepreneur Journeys case studies series. Instead, it had Epic, which only sells to large hospitals and practices, and is therefore not even relevant. In addition, I took Rohit through a discussion on a possible OEM strategy that could result in a significant revenue ramp relatively quickly. The key take away from that discussion is: convert potential competitors to partners. If possible, of course. And finally, I also took them through a discussion on why this is not a business that can be funded, but rather can be a highly lucrative cash business. And a very large one at that. I started doing my free Online Strategy Roundtables for entrepreneurs in the fall of 2008. These roundtables are the cornerstone programming of a global initiative that I have started called One Million by One Million (1M/1M). Its mission is to help a million entrepreneurs globally to reach $1 million in revenue and beyond, build $1 trillion in sustainable global GDP, and create 10 million jobs. In 1M/1M, I teach the EJ Methodology which is based on my Entrepreneur Journeys research, and emphasize bootstrapping, idea validation, and crisp positioning as some of the core principles of building strong fundamentals in early stage ventures. In addition, we are offering entrepreneurs access to investors and customers through our recently launched our 1M/1M Incubation Radar series. You can pitch to be featured on my blog following these instructions. Recordings of previous roundtables are all available here. You can register for the next roundtable here. BEIJING, China – China’s government vowed Wednesday to take “firm and forceful measures” as the U.S. threatened to expand tariffs to thousands of Chinese imports like fish sticks, apples and French doors, the latest salvo in an escalating trade dispute that threatens to chill global economic growth.China gave no details, but it has plenty of options to retaliate that could extend beyond additional tariffs on U.S. imports. There are fears that Beijing could attempt to disrupt operations of American automakers, retailers and others that see China as a key market. The spiraling conflict stems from Washington’s complaint that Beijing steals or pressures companies to hand over technology and concerns that plans for state-led development of Chinese champions in robots and other fields might erode American industrial leadership.A possible second round of tariff hikes announced Tuesday by the U.S. Trade Representative targets a $200 billion list of Chinese goods. That came four days after Washington added 25 per cent duties on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods and Beijing responded by increasing taxes on the same amount of American imports. The abrupt escalation is “totally unacceptable,” said a Commerce Ministry statement. It said Beijing would take unspecified “necessary countermeasures” to protect its “core interests.”Asked what Beijing would do, foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying gave no details but said, “We will take firm and forceful measures.”The USTR, the federal agency that oversees international trade policy and negotiations, said it was responding to Beijing’s decision to retaliate instead of changing its policies. President Donald Trump has threatened higher tariffs on more than $500 billion of goods, or nearly all of China’s annual exports to the United States. The USTR will accept public comments on the latest round of tariffs and hold hearings Aug. 20-23 before reaching a decision after Aug. 31, according to a senior U.S. official who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity. The first U.S. tariff list focused on Chinese industrial products, an attempt to reduce the direct impact on American consumers. The new list includes vacuum cleaners, furniture, auto and bicycle parts, French doors and plywood. It left untouched U.S.-branded smartphones and laptop computers. That “will hit the Chinese export sector hard,” said Rajiv Biswas of IHS Markit in a report.China imports far less from the U.S. than the U.S. imports from China. That means China’s imports of U.S. goods are so small that Beijing “cannot match fresh U.S. tariffs,” said Vishnu Varathan of Mizuho Bank in a report.China bought $130 billion of U.S. goods last year. Both governments have raised tariffs on $34 billion worth of each other’s goods and already said they are considering additional charges on another $16 billion. That would leave China only $80 billion for further retaliation.Instead, Beijing has other ways to disrupt American companies’ operations. Regulators can deny or cancel licenses or launch lengthy tax, environmental or anti-monopoly investigations.Companies are watching U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm Inc., which has waited months for Chinese regulators to decide whether to allow its proposed $44 billion acquisition of NXP Semiconductors. All other major governments have approved the deal. The economic impact of the conflict already is spreading. The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China said this week its member companies are rearranging the global flow of their goods to make sure any bound for the United States don’t pass through China.Members of Congress are increasingly questioning Trump’s tactics. They warned tariffs on imports raise consumer prices and expose U.S. farmers and manufacturers to retaliation.“Tonight’s announcement appears reckless and is not a targeted approach,” said Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch in a statement.Envoys from the two sides last met June 3 when Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross visited Beijing for talks with Vice Premier Liu He. They have given no indication when they might meet again.Chinese leaders have tried without success to recruit support from Europe and other governments. They criticize Trump’s tactics but share U.S. complaints about Beijing’s industrial policies.Investors had been taking the trade war in stride but Tuesday’s announcement appeared to dent that optimism. On Wednesday, China’s main stock index lost 1.8 per cent and Japan’s market benchmark fell 1.1 per cent. Hong Kong’s main index shed 1.3 per cent. The conflict is “far from over,” warned Hannah Anderson of JP Morgan Asset Management in a report, “and the impact will be global.”___AP Economics Writer Paul Wiseman contributed from Washington.___Chinese Ministry of Commerce (in Chinese): www.mofcom.gov.cn
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — The United States is rushing to catch up with what cybersecurity experts say are threats to critical infrastructure control systems by hackers to energy pipelines, hydroelectric projects, drinking water systems and nuclear power plants. The Idaho National Laboratory’s cybersecurity labs and offices next year will move into a massive cybersecurity building, and another building will house one of the nation’s most powerful supercomputers at a total cost of about $85 million.Lab officials are also teaming with Idaho universities and others to produce cybersecurity workers to help fill an estimated worker shortage of more than a million.Experts say current cybersecurity efforts mostly involve “bolting on” cyber protections to decades-old infrastructure control systems amid concerns they’ve already been infiltrated by malicious entities waiting for the opportune time to strike.Keith Ridler, The Associated Press
Bangalore: The Income-Tax Department Tuesday said it is conducting searches at about a dozen premises in Karnataka on charges of tax evasion. The raids are being conducted in state capital Bangalore, Hassan and Mandya and the department said the action is aimed against tax evaders and blackmoney generators. Official sources, however, indicated that links of these persons with respect to ongoing polls will also be a part of the investigative operation. These are sectors, it added, which are “prone” to generation of blackmoney. It said five residences in Hassan, one each in Bangalore and Mandya along with their business premises are being covered as part of the search operations. About a dozen premises are being searched, sources added. 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state will go to polls in two phases on April 18 and 23.
